Kimbo on TUF 10

Friday, September 18th, 2009

As you know by now, Kimbo Slice is on TUF 10 (The Ultimate Fighter season 10) on Rampage Jackson’s team. It’s Rampage vs. Rashad Evans this time, and there have been a bunch of rumors floating around about how Kimbo fared in the show, including:

1. Kimbo vs. Wes Sims where Kimbo wins - This has to be fake since Kimbo is on Wes’ team

2. Kimbo wins his first fight and then gets kicked out of the house for street fighting in the house (Seems possible)

3. Kimbo loses his first fight

What do you think’s going to happen?

Kimbo vs Petruzelli Fight Under Investigation

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Kimbo Slice had a sudden flight to celebrity, practically unrivaled in mixed martial arts, but just as quickly as his reputation soared, it’s become stained by his most-recent loss, one so repulsive that it is under scrutiny by a Florida MMA regulatory board.

It took exactly 14 seconds earlier this month for last-minute replacement Seth Petruzelli to knock out Kimbo Slice, dismantle his reputation, and cast doubt upon one of the most popular professional fighters’ legitimacy as a true mixed martial artist.

Frank Mir Calls Kimbo a Setback to MMA

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, who is actually more famous for his submission of hulking Brock Lesnar, apparently doesn’t think too highly of Kimbo Slice’s impact on MMA:

Let’s face it, the public’s perception of MMA is not exactly fantastic. Every time guys like Tank Abbot or Krazy Horse (Charles Bennett) fought or even now with Kimbo Slice; every time Kimbo fights it sets the sport back. Guys like that just reinforce the idea in the public’s eye that we are all blood thirsty barbarians who just want to pummel each other and that there is no skill required. Guys like them do the sport a disservice.

Some pretty strong words, but Frank Mir is not a dumb guy. I’m sure he realizes that Kimbo’s marketing isn’t his own doing and that he’s EliteXC’s and Gary Shaw’s investment. Still, you don’t see Kimbo arguing with them over the savage animal image they portray him as, do you?

Then again you can’t help but wonder if Kimbo Slice actually makes MMA look tame when he gets in a cage with gloves on and a referee; it’s nowhere near bareknuckle brawling in a Miami backyard!

Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock Video

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Kimbo vs. Shamrock is the upcoming MMA fight with Elite XC in October, and it’s sure to break more MMA and primetime records. Although Ken Shamrock is 44 hasn’t won a fight in four years, his confidence might be enough to stifle Kimbo Slice’s winning streak. Shamrock is too quickly knocked out, so if he has any plans to win this fight he should go for a takedown early, and if he gets it, he’ll win no problem. In the fight with James Thompson Kimbo showed that he just has no aptitude for grappling, whereas Shamrock is a lifetime wrestler. But it’s no secret that Elite XC likes standup, and their roster of strikers and knockout artists has convinced a few grapplers to keep it standing. Ken Shamrock is pretty stubborn though, and he may very well get knocked out in the first thirty seconds like he did against Tito Ortiz.

Just like Brett “The Grimm” Rogers, Ken Shamrock probably got his name on the list of potential opponents for Kimbo Slice through dropping his name here and there. In an old IFC interview, Shamrock said that Kimbo was improving but that he still hadn’t been tested. So after Kimbo Slice’s dubious win over James Thompson, Ken Shamrock openly declared he’d be the perfect opponent for his next fight. Frank Shamrock, adopted brother of Ken, said in an EliteXC interview that Ken should theoretically “destroy” Kimbo as long as he doesn’t do something stupid.

You’d be crazy to think there won’t be controversy yet again after this Kimbo vs Shamrock video: if Shamrock beats Kimbo, people will go nuts; if Kimbo beats Shamrock, people will still go nuts.

Shamrock by submission?

Or Kimbo by KO?

Remember to check back Saturday night for the Kimbo vs Shamrock video and more, right here after the fight. Let us know what you thought of this and the other MMA matches on this EliteXC card.
